California

It might be named for the Golden State but it’s all about Hawaiian flair at the California Hotel (or The Cal as we locals like to call it). The hotel has become kind of a mecca for visitors from Hawaii. Staff members don Hawaiian shirts, island hospitality is ever present and you can feast on the flavors of Hawaii at Aloha Specialties.  The Cal is conveniently located about a block from the Fremont Street Experience. It’s also connected to Main Street Station hotel via a walkway so you can take advantage of things like their Triple 7 Brewpub, which we highly recommend you do. You can also easily walk to downtown attractions like The Mob Museum, or take a short ride over to the Las Vegas Premium Outlets – North. Besides Hawaiian food, The Cal offers everything from fast food to fine dining. The Redwood Steakhouse has a table for you in its Old Vegas-style dining room if you’re in the mood for steak. For American classics served 24 hours daily, there’s the Market Street Cafe. Be sure to try their legendary oxtail soup.  If it’s a drink you’re looking for, grab one at the easygoing San Francisco Pub or the elegant Main Street Bar. Or enjoy catching up on the day’s games at Dave’s Bar, located next to Cal’s Sports Book on the second floor.   Test your luck in the 36,000-square-foot casino, where you’ll discover more than 1,100 slot and video poker machines and 28 different table games. For a bit of luck, swing past the California’s giant Buddha statue, placed just off the lobby near the elevators, and give its belly a rub. Guests who want to venture outside of downtown can take a complimentary shuttle to Sam’s Town on Boulder Highway and from Sam’s Town to the Strip. For those who just want to stay at The Cal and relax there’s a small rooftop pool that guests can lounge around and take in the views of downtown Las Vegas and the surrounding mountains. Oh, and if you are crazy curious about how a hotel named after California became a mecca for all things Hawaiian, it’s all due to gaming pioneer Sam Boyd who tailored The Cal to appeal to Hawaiian tourists. You can read about it in the book “California Hotel and Casino: Hawai’i’s Home Away from Home.” The hotel will be undergoing construction on the west hotel tower starting Sept. 6. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the front desk.

Mardi Gras Hotel & Casino

Located three miles from McCarran International Airport and a few blocks from the world-famous Las Vegas Strip, the Mardi Gras Hotel & Casino offers comfort, convenience and a great location, especially for the business and convention traveler. From the Mardi Gras Hotel & Casino, conventioneers have easy walking access to the Las Vegas Convention Center, which is one block away, and the Sands Expo Center, a mere four blocks away. Plus, there is a nearby Las Vegas Monorail station that covers the Strip, as well as free shuttle service to Horseshoe Las Vegas. Each of the rooms at the Mardi Gras Hotel & Casino is more than 430 square feet and offers great amenities for the Vegas visitor. This includes a coffee/tea maker, a cable television with pay-per-view movies, an iron and ironing board, a mini refrigerator, a hair dryer and complimentary wireless internet access. The 24-hour casino features more than 50 video poker and slot machines, along with a players club. The Mardi Gras Bar is a great place to grab a cocktail and watch the day’s sporting events on big-screen TVs.  Among the services provided at the hotel are laundry facilities, computer access, tour and show ticketing assistance, complimentary shuttle transportation to the airport and Strip, meeting space and an ATM. Whether traveling for business or pleasure, the Mardi Gras Hotel & Casino provides convenience to make your trip a pleasure.

Bellagio

The epitome of quality, romance and elegance on the Las Vegas Strip, the Bellagio hotel offers luxurious rooms, gourmet restaurants and upscale shopping along with a healthy dose of cultural enlightenment. The vibe: Italian elegance, romantic, classy but not stuffy What we love: The Bellagio Las Vegas has some of the best free attractions in town. There’s a reason you’ve seen the Bellagio Fountain in TV shows, commercials and movies like “Ocean’s Eleven.” They’re awesome. Every 15 minutes to half hour (starting around noon), the fountains dance in carefully choreographed patterns to music including everything from Broadway tunes to timeless tracks we all sing along to.  People say there’s no culture in Las Vegas, but we beg to differ. The Bellagio’s Gallery of Fine Art has regularly rotating exhibits of paintings and artifacts. Past exhibits have included the works of Monet, mobiles from Alexander Calder, ceramics from Picasso and Andy Warhol’s celebrity portraits. The centerpiece of Bellagio, located just off the main lobby, is the Conservatory. This is one garden you’ll be glad you don’t have to water. It takes a staff of more than 100 to take care of the thousands of potted flowers, trees and plants that make up the beautiful displays that change five times a year. Insider tips: The Bellagio is all about luxury – and they absolutely deliver. Too much dancing in your heels last night? Save your feet some pain by taking the tram from Bellagio to ARIA, Vdara, Park MGM and The Shops at Crystals. It runs daily from 8 a.m. – 4 a.m., every seven minutes. The Bellagio stop is accessible from a hallway in the Bellagio Spa Tower just past the restaurant, Harvest. The Fountains of Bellagio are one of the resort’s main attractions so to take full advantage, be sure to book a fountain view room. There are also several restaurants at Bellagio that have outdoor patios overlooking the fountains including LAGO, Yellowtail Japanese Restaurant and Lounge and PRIME Steakhouse. Good to know: The Bellagio’s focus on elegance and luxury means it’s not really the most kid-friendly property in town. All rooms, with the exception of the 19th floor, are non-smoking; there will be a $500 – $1000 plus tax deep cleaning fee at checkout for those who smoke in rooms. Your best bet is to just do this in designated areas, like the resort’s casino, bars or clubs.  Because of the large lake in front of the hotel, the front doors are set back a bit from the Strip. That means you’ll have a short walk to get to the Las Vegas Boulevard sidewalk. Don’t worry though – as you’re walking you can be entertained by the Bellagio fountain. The Bellagio has some of the best fine-dining restaurants on The Strip. Their options include favorites like Julian Serrano’s Lago that offers guests delectable Italian food with a front-row seat to the famous fountain show.  For something even more spectacular, reserve a table at the Mayfair Supper Club. This unique dining experience creates an atmosphere of sensory delights from their wide variety of unique menu options to a full evening of performances that include singers and dancers. This high-energy lounge takes ‘dinner and a show’ to a whole new level.  All hotel lobbies in Las Vegas are busy but the lobby at Bellagio is at the intersection of some of the most trafficked thoroughfares in Vegas. You have people checking in, people headed toward the conservatory, people walking in from the parking garage, people walking in from the Bellagio Spa Tower elevators … you get the picture. A lot of people are converging on the lobby and the lobby is not large. Throw in tourists looking up and snapping photos of the stunning Fiori di Como glass sculpture by Dale Chihuly that’s hanging from the ceiling and you get a lot of people in one area. Our advice, be patient and watch out for luggage, selfie sticks and distracted guests.

The Palazzo Prestige Club Lounge

Refinement doesn’t mean having less, and the Prestige Club Lounge gives you everything you love about staying at The Palazzo with plenty of added benefits to enjoy. The perfect blend of classic Italian luxury and modern taste, The Prestige Club Lounge offers visitors the added amenities of a private concierge and access to an exclusive 7,000 square-foot space located on the 23rd floor. The vibe: Over-the-top Italian elegance taken to the next level by offering unparalleled service and sophistication inside one of The Strip’s most distinguished resorts. What we love: The Palazzo Prestige Club Lounge is filled with plenty of perks, and you’ll be showered with them morning, noon, and night. From the moment you arrive at the private check-in area, you’ll be treated to a complementary beverage at The Prestige Lounge upon arrival. Your daily luxury amenities also include daily breakfast, afternoon coffee and tea services, as well as an evening cocktail reception complete with complimentary cocktails.  Insider tips: Any time you’re visiting the Palazzo or Venetian, we recommend parking at the Palazzo. The underground garage is easy to get into and is seldom crowded. There are several different elevators leading to the hotel. There’s also an elevator that leads directly to the casino and one that’s close to the showroom. Good to know: You’re 23rd floor views and amenities may be unparalleled, but make sure to head down and explore the rest of both the Palazzo and the Venetian resorts during your stay. You can enjoy the killer nightlife at Tao, luxury shopping at the Grand Canal Shoppes, and so many delicious food options you’ll have a hard time choosing a favorite.

Hampton Inn & Suites Las Vegas Convention Center, NV

Welcome to Hampton Inn & Suites, where fresh air and tranquility are right at your doorstep. Want a break from the action of the Las Vegas Strip, but still want easy access to all the fun? Stay at this hotel in the West Summerlin area. Enjoy all the action of the “Entertainment Capital of the World,” then relax at the newly built Hampton Inn & Suites hotel in Las Vegas-Red Rock/Summerlin, NV. The hotel is located just eight miles west of the Strip and just a few minutes from McCarran International Airport. For those visiting for a convention, there is also the Hampton Inn & Suites at the Las Vegas Convention Center.  Aside from the famous Strip casinos, you’ll enjoy easy access to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the Las Vegas Sports Park-both just minutes from the hotel in the Red Rock/Summerlin area. You can also experience the same 24-hour action as the famous casinos, but in a more relaxed area around the Red Rock, Rampart or Suncoast casinos. This hotel also puts you within reach of numerous golf courses and shopping malls. Discover the other side of Las Vegas at the Lake Mead Recreation Area, Red Rock Canyon or nearby Mount Charleston.

Las Vegas Hilton at Resorts World

Comfortable rooms, decadent dining, and a massive pool complex combine to make Resorts World an all-inclusive, unique Sin City experience, and the Hilton Tower gives guests affordable access to it all.  The vibe: The Hilton Tower at Resorts World offers the affordable luxury and comfort that has made the brand a household name. What we love: With Resorts World being so massive, you won’t need to leave the hotel grounds to fill your weekend with unforgettable fun. But we highly encourage you to venture out and explore Las Vegas. Sitting on the north end of the Strip means that you have just a short walk to all of the fantastic shopping, dining, and entertainment that the rest of Sin City has to offer.  Insider tips: It’s not called Resorts World for nothing, this place is HUGE, like, 88 acres huge. So once you drop off your bags try and take some time to walk around the resort and get your bearings. That way you won’t be wandering around aimlessly later when you’re trying to make it to your dinner reservation on time.  Good to know: Resorts World has spared no expense when it comes to bringing their guests a great time. Their pool complex covers over 5.5 acres with nine separate sparkling pools, each with its own style and vibe. Our personal favorite is the massive infinity pool that overlooks the flashing neon lights of the Las Vegas Strip.  Their nightlife options are just as diverse, with the killer AYU Dayclub that’ll transport you to the idyllic islands of Southeast Asia and the Zouk Nightclub, the most technologically advanced dance party in Las Vegas.

Hampton Inn and Suites Las Vegas Airport

Hampton Inn & Suites Las Vegas Airport is a sure bet that’s just minutes away from the Las Vegas strip. A place unlike any other, Las Vegas is a neon-glowing amusement park located in the middle of the desert. The city’s distinct energy is fueled by its endless entertainment options and the millions of people who come here to be entertained. Located just south of the world-famous Las Vegas Strip, Hampton Inn & Suites Las Vegas Airport places you moments away from high-energy shows and high-stakes gaming. The Las Vegas Strip is a sprawling maze of light and life, but it’s just one of the many sides of Las Vegas. North of the Strip and minutes from the Hampton Inn & Suites Las Vegas Airport is Fremont Street. This downtown district is home to many classic casinos and landmarks like the Golden Nugget Casino and The Neon Museum. Other attractions in Las Vegas include the PGA-caliber public golf course, Lake Mead, the natural wonders of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and the Hoover Dam. When you stay at Hampton Inn & Suites Las Vegas Airport the deck is stacked in your favor.

Gold Coast

Not to worry, there have not been any reports of Martian sightings at Las Vegas’ Gold Coast Hotel and Casino since the filming of Tim Burton’s 1996 cult film “Mars Attacks!” However, that is not to say that this property lacks excitement. Opened in 1986, the mid-sized property attracts a mix of locals and visitors alike. Favored by the older crowd due to the hotel’s quieter nature, the Gold Coast is an excellent property to stay at or visit if you’re looking for a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the Las Vegas Strip’s tourist crowds. Having retained the feel of a Victorian-style gambling hall, the front desk and lobby have a mixture of wood paneling and brass fixtures while the central gaming floor is embellished with a domed ceiling, eight elegant chandeliers, stained glass windows and hanging flower boxes. Although referencing the past in decor, its casino is firmly positioned in the present. Packed with an array of games, the 86,000-square-foot gaming floor offers guests 49 different table games and more than 2,100 slot and video poker machines. Additionally, the Race and Sports Book boasts 30 interactive betting terminals and 38 flat-screen TVs that surround the betting area. There’s also an expansive 720-seat bingo room upstairs, where eight action-packed sessions are called daily. But when the growling of your stomach becomes louder than the bingo caller’s announcements, you will be happy to take a dining break at one of the hotel’s on-premises restaurants. For casual dining, Ping Pang Pong (a locals’ spot for dim sum), presents an array of bona fide Chinese fare. And along the lines of the same cuisine, the Noodle Exchange is a creative noodle bar with a plentiful selection of broth, Ban Ban and stir-fried noodles for meat lovers and vegetarians alike. But if you’re in the when-I-see-it-I’ll-know-I-want-it type eating mood, the Ports O’ Call Buffet will take you on a culinary journey around the world and you will surely find whatever it is that you are looking for. For those of you looking to get spruced up for an evening of fine dining, the Gold Coast has a traditional steakhouse that will see those plans through. Serving a wide-ranging menu including perfectly seasoned and slow-roasted prime rib, Steak Diane, Chicken Oscar and Seafood Olympia, the Cortez Room is the hotel’s golden nugget. However, if you are just looking to quickly hush those hunger pangs and get back to the action, quicker bites can be enjoyed at T.G.I. Friday’s, the chain restaurant that is open 24/7,. The small Gold Coast Showroom, swathed in red decor, showcases a variety of acts including mystifying magic, lively music and ballroom dancing. Additionally, guests can try for a strike in the 70-lane bowling alley on the resort’s second floor. Featuring state-of-the-art equipment along with bumper bowling for kids… and adults… we will only judge a little. And for a little more activity, you can get your sweat on in the fully equipped fitness center or take a dip in the hotel’s freeform pool, and then freshen up in the old-fashioned barber shop or beauty salon.

The D Las Vegas

For an affordable price, the D Las Vegas puts you in the heart of downtown’s Fremont Street Experience while offering comfortable rooms along with two popular Detroit-area dining imports.   The vibe: A bit of Michigan in Vegas, high-energy, excellent value, everybody’s family here What we love: We think it’s cool the way the D melds the Motor City with Sin City. Its owners, Derek and Greg Stevens, were raised in Michigan. Joe Vicari’s Andiamo Italian Steakhouse, famous throughout Detroit for its fabulous food, is a true dining gem at the D. You can indulge in a five-star meal here without the five-star price tag. Don’t miss the Andiamo Grande Meatball and 32-ounce Andiamo Tomahawk ribeye steak. Plus, the cannoli is so good you’ll leave the gun and take it. We’re also glad the Stevens brothers got American Coney Island to set up shop in the D’s facade along Fremont Street Experience. Come here to get a taste of one of the famous Dearborn Sausage Company frankfurters (complete with chili and the secret sauce). The D has its own pool and hot tub. Not many hotels in downtown Las Vegas can boast the same thing. Insider tips: Go on a blast to the past by visiting the second floor of the D, where you’ll discover a variety of classic coin-operated machines like Sigma Derby (the electronic horse racing game introduced in the mid ’80s). The D is home to the Longbar, which lays claim to being the longest bar in Nevada. It’s a laid back spot to mingle and have a drink. With 15 big flat-screen TVs mounted side-by-side down the length of the bar, you’ll also want to watch the day’s games here (particularly if a Michigan team is playing). Get an eyeful of eye candy at the D. Outside on Fremont Street, the D Bar is staffed by bikini-clad bartenders who dispense an array of frozen drinks. Inside the hotel, you can have cards dealt to you by one of the hotel’s gorgeous Dancing Dealers. Before it became the D Las Vegas, this hotel was known as the Irish-themed Fitzgeralds. A piece of the Blarney Stone from County Cork, Ireland, still resides here. On special occasions (like St. Paddy’s Day), look for it to be pulled out and put on display in the Vue Bar for a little luck-inspired kissing. Good to know: There are four elevators serving the 34-story tower at the D. They are slow and fill up fast. During peak occupancy you could spend 15 minutes or more waiting to ride up to or down from your room. The rooms at the D were all remodeled when the hotel was rebranded and relaunched in late 2012. Although they are contemporary in décor and come with Serta mattresses and 32-inch HD TVs, they don’t have microwaves or coffeemakers. And if you want a fridge, you’ll have to pay an additional fee. As part of Fremont Street Experience, there’s a concert stage positioned right next to the D that hosts bands until midnight on weekdays and until 2 a.m. on weekends. If you don’t like noise, request a room on a high floor. Ear plugs are also available at the front desk. But your best bet is to just go out and join the fun. Speaking of noise, the air conditioning units are loud, but they work well and keep the rooms cool. Reopening date: June 4, 2020

Excalibur

Named after King Arthur’s legendary sword, Excalibur is a hotel at the south end of the Strip that mixes medieval style with modern conveniences. The vibe: Fun-for-all-ages atmosphere, no frills accommodations, faux castle theme What we love: There’s an obvious reason why people choose to stay at Exalibur: it’s cheap. And even with the resort fee, you’ll still save a bundle. Although this gigantic white castle with spires of bright red, blue and gold doesn’t quite hearken back to the Middle Ages, you’ll love tweeting out from the drawbridge or the Fun Dungeon (just rein in your “50 Shades of Grey” fantasies because this is an arcade and carnival-style midway for families). Insider tips: Excalibur is connected to Luxor (which in turn is connected to Mandalay Bay) by an enclosed passage. This is great on summer days when – trust us – you don’t want to walk out in the sweltering heat. If you’ve got a car, you should access Excalibur from Frank Sinatra Drive and not directly from the Strip. This will take you behind the resort to its three-story self-parking garage. You’ll then walk across the road (Luxor Drive) and enter through the rear entrance. Good to know: Don’t expect the rooms at Excalibur to have medieval décor. The furnishings are traditional – no garderobes here (and thank god because if you know what a garderobe is you don’t want one). Also, if you smoke in a non-smoking room, there will be a pretty big fine at checkout. Save yourself the trouble and light up in designated smoking areas throughout the casino.  What shows and concerts are playing at the Excalibur?: Shows playing at the Excalibur include: Tournament of Kings, Mac King Comedy Magic Show, Australia’s Thunder From Down Under, and Austrailian Bee Gees. What is there to do at the Excalibur? : Excalibur offers a family-friendly Fun Dungeon Carnival Arcade, the 4D Ultimate Experience, numerous restaurants, casino games, and an outdoor pool. What makes the Excalibur unique? : Shaped like a castle, at the south end of the Strip, Excalibur has a fun-for-all-ages atmosphere that mixes medieval style with modern conveniences.

You can enjoy these flavors in the traditional cup or cone, or you can try their “Milky Bun” that sandwiches your dessert between two warm glazed donuts for extra sweetness.  If you need something a little smoky to cut through all of that sweetness, the Funny Library Coffee Shop offers delicious coffee and breakfast spreads. You can enjoy a comfortable atmosphere to sit back and relax within their bright, book loving atmosphere.

NoMad Las Vegas

NoMad Hotel brings the grandeur of Europe to Park MGM on the Strip. Wait, did we just say there’s a hotel within a hotel? Ah yeah, we did, and no this ain’t no “Inception”-style dream, either.   If “NoMad” sounds familiar, it’s because it is. Known for their romantic and extraordinary properties in New York and Los Angeles, the Las Vegas location is no different. Luxury, romance and first-class service is quite literally woven into every aspect of NoMad. Designed by French architect and designer, Jacques Garcia, each room and suite feels more like a home and less like a hotel. Exhibit A: custom furnishings and ridiculously soft linens. Other residence-like features include original artwork, large flat screen televisions, freestanding pedestal bathtubs and separate water closets. In other words, take your shoes off and stay awhile. So yeah, NoMad Hotel is technically a hotel within a hotel. But the truth is, it has a level of comfort that makes it feel like a home away from home. Swing by and check it out for yourself.

Homewood Suites by Hilton Las Vegas City Center

A half-mile from the Las Vegas Strip, Homewood Suites by Hilton Las Vegas City Center is your ticket to everything the Entertainment Capital of the World has to offer. Each suite at this extended-stay hotel includes a fully-equipped kitchen that comes complete with a refrigerator, microwave, two-burner stove and dishwasher to make you feel at home. With separate living and sleeping areas, each room comes with complimentary internet access, a work desk with an ergonomic chair, a flat-screen TV and a sofa bed. Wake up to a hot, complimentary breakfast served daily and later in the day, enjoy a complimentary evening social complete with drinks on Mondays through Thursdays. If you’re looking for a quick snack or something to cook in-between meals, the 24-hour Suite Shop is the place to go. If fitness is on the brain, work out at the on-site fitness center. Looking to soak up some sun? Take a dip in the heated outdoor pool that features a whirlpool and a beautiful waterfall. Have work to finish? Stay connected to the office with the 24-hour business center. They offer a 660 square-feet meeting room, that can accommodate corporate meetings for up to 36 guests or small banquets for more than 40 guests. Numerous golf courses are just 30 minutes away, all five Las Vegas convention centers are nearby and McCarran International Airport is only four miles away. Everything you need is right here, at Homewood Suites by Hilton Las Vegas City Center.

The LINQ Hotel + Experience

The LINQ Hotel & Casino near the heart of the Strip has a young, easygoing attitude with a chic pool deck, a Guy Fieri restaurant and really cool bars — 3535 and O’Sheas Casino. The vibe: College-style fun for adults of all ages, value-oriented with a modern outlook, in the middle of everything. What we love: The best thing about this hotel is its location at the heart of the Strip. Plus, it opens up onto The LINQ Promenade. That means…thanks to all the restaurants and bars housed there…you’ll have access to numerous eating and drinking opportunities all within walking distance of your room. Keep your eyes peeled for Lucky the Leprechaun. That’s Brian Thomas, the lovable mascot of O’Sheas Casino. Follow him into the Irish-themed pub and you’re guaranteed a grand ol’ time. There are three bars — and better yet, cheap drinks. Can we say that again? Cheap drinks. And there’s beer pong. So grab a beer and get your game on. The LINQ Hotel & Casino has a hip pool deck with two distinct areas — a standard hotel pool and a dayclub experience. If you can’t decide between the two, hang out at the center bar. On weekends check out the indoor “recover zone,” where you can actually play pool (this time we mean billiards). Wireless internet access at hotels in Vegas isn’t unusual, but reliable access is. At The LINQ Hotel & Casino, there’s reliable Wi-Fi in the rooms as well as on the gaming floor, in the bars, at the reception area and, well, in pretty much every nook and cranny. This means you’ll never be out of contact with friends and family back home or experience a delay when posting your selfies. Insider tips: The rooms at The LINQ Hotel & Casino are grouped into red, blue and green districts. There are color schemes on the hallway carpeting to help you navigate between them. So when you get off the elevator, if your room is in the “green” district, just follow the green dots. You can do much more than watch reruns of “Friends” on the 47-inch flat-screen TV in your room. Need to get up early? Set the TV’s alarm clock. Pillow too hard? Request a softer one. Feeling competitive? Have a game like Jenga or Uno brought up to you. Hungry? Room service includes delivery from many of the mouthwatering eateries that line The LINQ Promenade. So with a couple of clicks you can have a slice of Flour & Barley pizza, fried chicken from Brooklyn Bowl or a gourmet wiener from Haute Doggery delivered. The 3535 lobby bar,  is named for the numerical part of The LINQ Hotel & Casino’s address, it boasts 35 premium infused spirits from which 16 truly unique martinis and cocktails are crafted. Order one. If you’re a bacon lover, we recommend the Pig Newton. Good to know: This hotel makes our list of top dreaded parking garages in Vegas. It’s old. It’s tight. And we don’t understand why people insist on parking their giant SUVs and “Road Warrior” trucks in there. We strongly recommend you avoid parking in The LINQ Hotel & Casino’s garage. Use the valets for the hotel and The LINQ Promenade…or, if it’s open, use the surface parking lot behind the resort. Be aware that if a music festival or another major event is being hosted in that surface parking lot, you will not be able to park there and you’ll hear noise if you’re staying in the hotel’s east side rooms. Luckily, this is Vegas and you won’t be in your room, right? You’ll be out partying yourself. Starting at 250 square feet, the rooms are small and feel a bit dorm-like. They do, however, make clever use of space. For example, the bathrooms have showers only and we like the super-sized and super handy soap, shampoo and conditioner dispensers inside them. While low-tech, they’re highly practical. The rooms at The LINQ Hotel & Casino aren’t completely soundproof. There’s a good chance you’ll hear people in the hallway or guests next to you taking a shower, flushing the toilet or treading around heavily. Luckily, the walls are thick enough that you shouldn’t hear them talking (as long as they’re not carrying on a LOUD CONVERSATION). You must be at least 21 years old to use the pools at The LINQ Hotel & Casino. If there are kids with you, you’ll have to go next door to the Flamingo — which, though a bit inconvenient, isn’t a bad thing because their pool area includes water slides, waterfalls and other fun stuff.  Please Note: Admittance to the High Roller is not included in a stay at the LINQ. Tickets can be purchased here.

Hilton Garden Inn Las Vegas / Henderson

The Hilton Garden Inn Las Vegas/Henderson is conveniently located off US-95/93 and three miles from the I-215. At this hotel close enough to the action of The Strip, but far enough away to enjoy the quiet side of Las Vegas. It’s about 10 miles from McCarran International Airport and a short 20-minute drive to Lake Mead National Recreation Area. If you’re looking to catch a movie, live show or partake in gaming, Sunset Station Hotel and Casino is adjacent to the hotel.

Encore at Wynn Las Vegas

Encore exudes Vegas-style prestige housing, elite restaurants and the city’s most exclusive lounges. The vibe: The epitome of luxury, modern sophistication, expansive suites, this hotel is worth every penny. What we love: As the name suggests…considering Wynn Las Vegas is its big sister…you can expect the best of the best at Encore. Starting at the suites (you won’t find any “standard rooms” here) are spacious and, well, simply amazing. From the ultra comfy Wynn Dream bed and the TV in the bathroom (so you can watch TV while brushing your teeth) to the automated blinds and lights, everything in these suites is fantastic. The location of Encore is fantastic too. Connected to Wynn, it’s not far from the center of the Strip. It’s also right across the street from the Fashion Show mall, plus several other must-visit megaresorts are within walking distance. How shall we describe Encore’s style? Exquisite. Impeccable. Bold. These are just a few of the words that come to mind. When you see the long Swarovski crystal dragon in Wazuzu or the golden statue of Daphne metamorphosing into a tree in Encore Lobby Bar, you’ll probably come up with some of your own…if you’re not rendered speechless. Insider tips: Are you a traveling vegan or vegetarian wondering how you’ll survive in Vegas? Relax. If you’re staying at Encore, you’ll be pleased to discover that all of its restaurants (along with those at Wynn) have menu items designed especially for you. Use the self-parking garage at Encore. It’s the kind of garage we wish all the hotels in Vegas had. When you drive in, you’ll pull onto a ramp where a digital sign informs you of how many unoccupied parking spaces are available on each level. Once you’ve parked, it’s a short walk to the elevator, which takes you to the property’s northeast corner, near the pool and heart of the casino.   Good to know: OK, when you choose to stay here you know you’re choosing to live on the luxurious side of life. It’s not just the suites that look shiny and new. If you’re looking for a meal sprinkled with sophistication and fabulousness, you’ve found it. Head over to Wazuzu (say Wazuzu ten times fast and try to tell us we didn’t give you 30 seconds of entertainment) or, If you don’t want to eat alone head over to Espresso, where you can pick up a quick coffee, pastry or sandwich and stuff your face in your room when no one is looking. The Encore Esplanade is home to a handful of unique stores, but if you’re big on shopping you should head over to the Wynn Esplanade or Wynn Plaza. It’s a bit of a walk but well worth it. There are more stores here and the names on them like Alexander McQueen. If you’ve come to Encore to go to XS, make sure to queue up immediately in the small rooms adjacent to the nightclub when you arrive. XS is located along the Encore Esplanade, so security guards will shoo you away if you appear to be hanging around with no purpose…because Encore is just not that kind of place. Also as an FYI, no outside food or beverages are allowed in the resort or the casino, even if you’re staying in a room. All guests who arrive with these items will be told to throw it away or leave it in their car.

Palms Place

Connected to the Palms Casino Resort, Palms Place is its more refined younger sister — minus the gaming. It has an all-suite tower that offers fantastic views of the Strip as well as a lounge and pool. The vibe: Luxury-leaning hotel with reasonable rates, contemporary, quiet What we love: Palms Place is a short drive from the Strip, doesn’t feel congested and whenever you crave gaming or more choices in food, nightlife and entertainment, nearly everything you could want is just a few moments away. Not a fan of casinos and smoking? Don’t want to be among the crowds at resorts on the Strip? Then Palms Place is for you. It’s also not bad for folks with kids. The accommodations at Palms Place feel more like urban condos than hotel rooms. You’ll have a fully equipped kitchen at your fingertips. In addition to at least two large plasma TVs, there’s a spa tub, waterfall shower and small TV in the bathroom. In addition, one-bedroom units are available for upgrade which include a larger kitchen, fireplace, in-unit laundry facilities and a sofa bed.  Insider tips: As mentioned, Palms Place is a short distance from the Strip. If you don’t have a car, rideshare services and taxis are prevalent and available 24/7. Palms Place also offers a complimentary shuttle to its sister property Palace Station, which includes a full-service casino and several restaurants. Good to know: Opened in 2008, Palms Place isn’t brand spankin’ new, but it’s in fairly good condition. The rooms feel modern and are filled with great amenities, but since they’ve never been remodeled you may find spots showing wear and tear as well as fixtures and appliances that could use some updating. The lighting is quite dim in the hallways and actually in the rooms too. But that’s just due to décor choices, which include lots of small lamps with funky and interesting shapes. Palms Place doesn’t have its own parking garage. If you want to park your car, you can use the west garage at the Palms, but you’ll have to walk through the garage and around the exterior of Palms Place to enter it. There are also some parking spots in front of the hotel, but then you’ll have to stroll up the driveway — and maybe dodge a few vehicles — before you get in. Palms Place has put in place new health and well-being procedures during your stay. Please review them here.

The Jockey Club has simple, fully stocked suites situated right next to the most famous mega-resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. Perfect for large gatherings that want to easily enjoy the best the city has to offer. The vibe: All of the perks and comfort of home but located in the Entertainment Capital of the World.  What we love: These suites are massive and fully-stocked for any group’s needs. Full kitchens decked out with a fridge, microwave, range stove with oven, dishwasher and even a coffeemaker to help perk you up after a night on the town. They also include all dinner and cookware you could need so you can go full Master Chef in these kitchens.  Insider tips: Take advantage of their Winner Circle Lending Library that has DVD’s, games, books and magazines you can check out and enjoy along with fresh popcorn and coffee all day long for the ultimate game or movie night.  Good to know: This is a non-smoking resort, so make sure you don’t light up in the suites. They do have designated spots outside, or you can walk over to one of the surrounding casinos if you want to smoke indoors to beat the heat.

Nobu Hotel at Caesars Palace

Sure this intimate boutique property has a celebrity pedigree. It’s co-owned by celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa and partners include actor Robert De Niro. But it’s not for its celebrity status that you’ll be checking in to Nobu Hotel at Caesars Palace. You’ll check in for all the little extras. This hotel is known for providing the utmost in service and a sense of exclusivity to its guests.  At Nobu you’ll find elegant, unusual touches like Italian sheets on the beds (molto bella!), feng shui rooms and bath amenities with a rosemary and white tea scent. Guests are welcomed to their room with a gift of hot green tea and the in-room mini-bar is stocked with snacks you won’t find at the mini mart like blood orange chili juice, sake and Japanese beer. During the nightly turndown service, robes are placed on the bed with an exclusive pillow and bath menu, and an evening tea with macaroons is served. Yes, the details are impeccable — right down to the do not disturb sign, which is a dramatic red tassel instead of the usual plastic placard. Nobu Hotel even found a way to make their elevators out of the ordinary. Those who like a little extra security will appreciate the optical scanners that read your key before letting you call for an elevator. You select your floor before you get in and once inside, the elevators have no buttons other than to open and close the doors. That means there’s no way to get to a floor without a key. The luxury doesn’t end there. Since the hotel’s namesake is a world-renowned chef, it’s only fitting that his restaurant is located on the ground floor. And talk about one humungous space, Nobu restaurant. In addition to the main dining room, there’s a sushi bar and several private tables — including teppanyaki tables. Guests can indulge in Chef Nobu’s signature items: yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño, sashimi salad and vanilla miso tart. A bar and adjacent lounge with semi-enclosed pods is the perfect place to sip a drink before or after you dine. Guests at Nobu Hotel at Caesars Palace are also lucky to have access to Nobu’s cuisine 24 hours a day through a special in-room dining menu you can’t find anywhere else, which includes sushi and a selection of bento boxes for a customary Japanese breakfast.  Nobu Hotel’s location within Caesars Palace means there’s a wide range of amenities at that hotel available to guests as well, including The Forum Shops, entertainment at The Colosseum, Omnia Nightclub, Qua Baths & Spa and the pools. It’s the best of both worlds.

Golden Gate Hotel and Casino

The Golden Gate Hotel & Casino is vintage Vegas. This is where the bargain shrimp cocktail originated. The hotel, which opened in 1906, is one of Vegas’ most historic spots. It’s been around so long that it was assigned the city’s first telephone with the number 1. In 1931 the hotel was expanded and renamed Sal Sagev (Las Vegas spelled backwards). It got its current moniker, The Golden Gate, in 1955 when a group from San Francisco bought it. While there are still touches of that Roaring ’20s, speakeasy, swanky vibe to the hotel, it has all of the modern amenities you want as well. The 106-room hotel was renovated in 2005 with a luxury tower and 16 suites, a high-limit pit with dancing dealers (a modern reinterpretation of flappers) and a new lobby with historical artifacts on display. The rooms have all of the 21st century’s conveniences too like 32-inch LG flat-screen TVs, wireless internet access, Keurig coffee makers and iPod docking stations.  In 2013, the Golden Gate celebrated the 80th anniversary of the end of Prohibition by renaming their original casino watering hole Bar Prohibition. You’ll also find the more modern One Bar outside on Fremont Street, which features bartenders clad in bikinis dancing on the countertops, as well as flair bartenders spinning bottles for your entertainment. Whether you’re looking for an old-school Vegas atmosphere or modern rooms and the latest casino games you’ll find it all at the Golden Gate. It’s the vintage blend of past and present.

Penn & Teller

There are some basic rules of magic. Never tell your audience how a trick is done, don’t show the audience how you prep for a trick, and never, ever perform the classic cups and balls trick with transparent cups. Well, Penn and Teller manage to break all of these rules and more in their show at the Rio Hotel and Casino and it’s perfection. Just like every amazing duo, Penn and Teller have their strengths and weaknesses and combined, they create the perfect storm of comedy, magic and entertainment. The tall, lanky Penn serves as a narrator, providing a running comedic commentary on just about everything they do, while Teller handles much of the show’s action, all without saying a single word. While there are some elements of classic magic and sleight of hand in the show, most of the tricks are incredibly creative, innovative, and sometimes bordering on the macabre. The fun of this show is that the duo lets the audience in on some of the tricks, but others are meant to completely mystify the crowd and it works. Comedic, mind-bending, and totally entertaining, Penn & Teller is a classic Vegas show that is a vacation rite of passage.

Murphy grew up in Southern Illinois, where he was drawn to the music of “outlaw” country artists like Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. He also loved the sound of southern rock bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers and ZZ Top. His musical influences shaped his debut album, Out With A Bang, which went platinum and produced six hit singles, including “Out With A Bang,” “Fish Ain’t Bitin’,” “Just Once,” which was featured in the movie 8 Seconds about bull rider Lane Frost, “Party Crowd” and the #1 single “Dust On The Bottle.” These songs have become country radio classics. Blue Man Group

Get ready to experience the ultimate sensory overload when our favorite blue bros take the stage and crank up the volume. An audiovisual encounter unlike anything else on the Strip, Blue Man Group is fun for the whole family and just doesn’t get old no matter how many times you see it.   The narrators of the Blue Man Group show profess to know a lot about human nature and social evolution, but the three bald and blue stars are oddly oblivious. Through music, movement and only a little bit of verbal communication, you become a part of this production and swim in the sights and sounds that douse the theater. The show is good clean fun with a variety of acts and quick-change illusions, but the core of its appeal is the company’s signature music, played on far-out, makeshift instruments. Seriously fun and unconventionally educational, you’ll have had a lot of laughs, and have maybe even shaken your caboose. Go ahead and let your jaw drop open, after all, being consumed by entertainment produced by three blue men is a perfectly acceptable reaction.
