The Main Street Hotel, Brewery and Casino Las Vegas History
In 1978, the property the Main Street Hotel sits on was originally occupied by the Holiday International. The part of the property that was a casino in the Holiday International closed in 1980 due to going into bankruptcy. The hotel later closed in 1984 after a strike by workers at the hotel.
The property was reopened in 1987 as the Park Hotel and Casino but only stayed open until 1990 when it was closed.
Through eminent domain, the property was acquired in 1991 and renovated at a cost of $82 million and was called Church Street Station. The property failed and lasted only a year.
Boyd Gaming eventually bought the property in 1993 for $16.5 million. They spent $45 million on renovations and reopened the property as Main Street Station in November 1996. The property caters to a Hawaiian theme and is popular among Hawaiians.
