The Linq Hotel & Casino Las Vegas History
The Linq is owned and operated by Caesars Entertainment. It originally opened in 1959 as the Flamingo Capri as a 180 room motel. The Flamingo Capri was purchased in 1971 with a casino added to the property. More rooms were eventually added by 1977. On November 1, 1979, the property was renamed to the Imperial Palace.
The Imperial Palace was an Asian themed resort and popular among middle class and value conscious guests. Favorite attractions as part of the Imperial Palace presence were the Auto Collections car museum which ran from 1981 to 2017 and the Legends in Concert show that ran from 1983 to 2009.
Additional towers were added to increase the number or rooms from 1982 to 1987. Harrah’s Entertainment which later became Caesars Entertainment bought the Imperial Palace in 2005 for $370 million. A renovation was decided for the property. On December 21, 2012, the Asian theme was removed, and the Imperial Palace was renamed The Quad with a new design.
Opened by Caesars in 2013, The Linq Promenade, located on the south end of The Quad, featured an outdoor collection of bars, restaurants and shops including the tallest ferris wheel in the world, the High Roller Ferris wheel. EVentually with the new Linq Promenade, The Quad was renamed to the Linq on October 30, 2014. With the name change, the property was accompanied by a $223 million renovation to modernize the resort to attract more millennials. The Linq now included 33,890 sq ft of casino floor space.
