The Fremont Hotel and Casino opened on May 18, 1956 as the tallest building in the state of Nevada. At that time it cost $6 million to open. The casino was owned by Ed Levinson and Lou Lurie. In 1963, the hotel added a 14 story Ogden tower and one of the city’s first vertical parking garages.
After a purchase in 1974, the new owners expanded the casino at a cost of $4 million. In 1983, finally the current owner, Sam Boyd purchased the Fremont as part of the Boyd Gaming group properties.
Wayne Newton in 1959, debuted his start as the entertainer of Las Vegas at the Fremont at its Carnival Lounge.
